Electrolysis is a progressive permanent treatment, and different for everyone so it is impossible to put a time stamp on when you will reach permanency.  There are several reasons for this because we are dealing with factors like heredity, hormones,  the hair growth cycles (anagen – growing phase, catagen – transition phase, telogen – resting phase).  If you follow your electrologist’s instructions, if all conditions are right, and you are consistent with your treatment plan you will start to see a significant drop in hair density and thickness within the first few months.  Full permanent results can take anywhere from one to two years or more.  The average is a year and a half.

Yes, electrolysis services are available in Dayton, Ohio. Selah Studios offers permanent hair removal treatment services.

Electrolysis is the only FDA approved permanent hair removal method on the market today. We use a sterile single use probe to apply heat energy to the lower two thirds of the hair follicle; killing the growth center and germinative cells.

Yes, electrolysis is considered a permanent hair removal method. It works by destroying the growth center of the hair with chemical or heat energy. Each hair follicle is treated individually with an electrolysis device, which ensures that treated hairs are unlikely to grow back. However, multiple sessions are usually required to achieve complete and lasting results because hair grows in different cycles that need to be targeted at the right time.

Consistency is key. We need to treat the hairs as they are coming in so the first 6 to 8 appointments are crucial.  Depending on the size of the area and density of hair, your sessions can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 or more hours every week to two weeks for the first 3 months, with no more than 3 weeks between sessions.  Once we get past that 6 to 8 appointment mark, if we are getting full clearings, we may reduce the time, and start to stretch out the frequency of sessions. Eventually, you will enter maintenance where you will be coming in occasionally for a few random hairs until they are all gone.

Laser Hair Removal is a permanent hair reduction that only works on some skin tones, hair types, and hair colors. Electrolysis is permanent hair removal that works on all skin tones, all hair types and all hair colors.  Electrolysis is the only proven safe, effective, and permanent method of hair removal available.

Electrolysis is effective for permanent hair removal but can have downsides such as discomfort during treatment, significant time commitment for multiple sessions, high cost, temporary side effects like redness and swelling, and rare risks of scarring and pigmentation changes. As a qualified practitioner here at Selah Studios, we help minimize these issues.

There are many factors that contribute to what a client feels during an electrolysis session; such as the client’s pain tolerance, the method used, the treatment area, the hydration level in the skin, the treatment settings. The feeling can be described as heat, tingling, or a stinging sensation. For clients with a lower pain tolerance, it may be recommended clients purchase numbing cream for self-application at least 30 minutes prior to arriving at their appointment.

Electrolysis is an extremely safe and time-tested procedure that has minimal to no downtime. You may experience some redness, swelling or slight scabbing in the area that was worked on. This is normal and should not be cause for alarm.  It is also possible to have bruising, tenderness, and people with darker skin tones may experience temporary hyperpigmentation.
If the area is exposed to bacteria from cell phone use, or clients touching the treatment area you may experience tiny whiteheads.  This is due to improper aftercare and can be easily corrected by carefully following your electrologist’s aftercare instructions.

Yes, there are 3 different methods:

  • Galvanic – This method causes a chemical reaction producing the creation of Lye to destroy the lower two-thirds of the hair follicle. Timing is in seconds, as clearings are slower, and permanency takes longer to achieve. Galvanic has several contraindications, so it is not for everyone.
  • Thermolysis – Uses high frequency technology to coagulate and destroy the lower two thirds of the hair follicle. The current is very fast (hundreds to thousands of seconds).  This method has very few contraindications so it is suitable for almost everyone.
  • Blend: Uses both the Thermolysis and Galvanic method.  The heat of thermolysis helps the spread of the lye in a more effective manner.
